Thanksgiving Family, Focus and Gratitude

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and it’s my favorite time of year. It’s a holiday that might be one of the only holidays our society hasn’t commercialized and turned into something that you need to buy things for.

Thanksgiving is all about family; it’s about getting around the table, spending time together, and making a nice meal.

It’s also a wonderful time of year to reflect upon these questions; What are we grateful for?

What are the events/activities that went well in the past year?

As a business owner, I also like to use this time to focus on; What went well in the previous year? What are some things that we need to improve upon? And How do we plan for next year?

This time of year is a kickoff to planning for a successful 2023. It starts with gratitude. A book I read several years ago,” A Simple Act of Gratitude” by John Kralik, is a great read. It focuses on the idea of creating a mindset of thankfulness and gratitude and on the things we have in our lives that make our lives better and easier.

As a business owner, there are so many things to focus on, and easy to think about the negative. Or to focus on the negative things of what didn’t go well or goals you might be missing.

But what if you “flipped” this thinking and discovered how things went better or easier than you thought? For example, I am so thankful we hired that General Manager or my marketing assistant completely transformed how we approach the business.

I encourage you to think in terms of gratitude and to be focused on Thanksgiving; it’s the most wonderful holiday of the year.
